Challenge
Our client provided patients with telemedicine solutions, specifically health monitoring devices. In recognition of the rapidly spreading technology in healthcare, our task was to develop and implement remote patient monitoring software that would allow easier adoption among older patients and people with disabilities.
It was our responsibility to make the new mobile app user-friendly. That consisted of creating an easy-to-use, device-agnostic solution that would remove the need for technical support. Effectively, that would minimize the client’s non-health-related tasks, allow patients to become more engaged, and increase the benefits for both patients and caregivers.
Solution
We’ve developed an app to optimize the client’s remote patient monitoring. After carefully going over the client’s business needs, it was our job to develop software that would improve their day-to-day operations and the quality of healthcare delivery.
We’ve developed an App-store-published mobile app with React Native that used iOS components as wrappers for Bluetooth, Twillio API, and Validic. User Authentication and authorization were done through Auth0 and biometric authentication.
Our app supports two types of users.
The first type are users with chronic illnesses who greatly benefit from remote patient monitoring devices. These patients tracked their daily conditions, such as blood sugars, oxygenated hemoglobin, blood pressure, and weight. The captured data was standardized and transmitted using Validic SDK.
The collected data is sent to the client’s backend, giving them instant access to all health information and visually presenting it through charts.
Remote patient monitoring devices also benefit the second type of users: those who use the app’s feature to access the client’s emergency call center with the press of a button. Relying on Twillio API, the press of the pendant or mobile app instantly establishes the VolP call through the PERS solution. The app also sends the client the patient’s location.
Our RPM solution also contributed to patient activation, as it sends notifications and alerts about important events or actions. With the initial goal of making the app easy to use for the elderly and people with disabilities, our team designed a simple, intuitive experience, emphasizing quality and simplicity of service.
Benefits
A user-friendly experience for patients, resulting in enhanced healthcare delivery.
Instant and complete access to patient information.
Alleviation of administrative tasks, as all the information is instantly collected and visually represented.
Remote patient monitoring also affects patient engagement, as patients actively participate in their well-being. Studies show that active patients drive better clinical results.
As the app collects all the information automatically, our client could focus more on the most important aspect of their practice: delivery of quality care.
