Challenge

One of our clients is reshaping how patients take prescription medications and deliver real-time health insights to their care teams. They enlisted the help of Vicert and our UX design partner, DesignMap, to help improve patient engagement through reliable health app development and intuitive design.

The existing UX/UI design of their other health apps failed to account for how patients are motivated, the journey for a patient battling an illness, and how they ideally would interact with their care team. This resulted in overall poor engagement which had a direct impact on patient outcomes.

Our challenge was to create a health tracking app that would improve patient outcomes, starting with increased app engagement.

We designed and built mobile applications and web sites that encouraged positive habits and communication between a patient and their medical team—even while taking medication that made them feel ill, and as they wrestled with their diagnosis.

Approach

Using a dual track agile process, we tested with users at multiple stages of concept development. This helped us minimize risk by investing in development only AFTER user validation, and not before.

We initiated health app development with an MVP and completed mobile app development plans. The technology stack that our team used was React, React native, and .NET.

Putting together all requests, our team provided a solution that satisfied the need for quality health care for a wider audience. We developed a health tracking app with features that are in line with the client’s expectations and end-user requirements:

  • Reliable, bug-free chat with doctors available in real-time
  • Symptoms logging (fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, etc.)
  • Symptoms duration (hours, days, weeks)
  • More information for the care team (how severe are the symptoms, how the patient is coping, additional comments to help get more precise diagnostics)
  • Data insights for healthcare professionals to detect chronic conditions
  • A user-friendly interface and seamless functionalities to increase patient engagement

Solution

By looking at the interactions through the lens of the user, we delivered a more patient-centered care approach, leading to a reduction in hospital visits, while enabling people to be treated in the comfort of their own home. The platform we created assisted in delivering real-time insights allowing for greater responsiveness and optimum decision making by the medical team.
